1 Wang Jiwu (19471952), the first director of the hospital
Wang Jiwu, a well-known expert of internal medicine and lemology, and educator of medicine, served as a member of the standing committee of the first three Zhejiang committees of the CPPCC (Chinese People's Political Consultative Committee), Cochairman of the Fourth Zhejiang Committee of the CPPCC, deputy to the Second to Seventh National People's Congresses, a member of the Fifth and Sixth Central Committee of Jiu San Society, a member of the standing committee of the Seventh CPPCC and of the Eighth and Ninth Senate Committees, Cochairman of the First Zhejiang Committee of Jiu San Society and its Second to Fifth Honorary Cochairman, and former Chairman of Lemology Society of Chinese Medical Association.
Wang Jiwu graduated from Peking Union Medical College in 1934 and gained a degree of Doctor of Medicine (M.d.). Then he went to study in US and came back in 1941. Wang joined Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in 1985. He served as Professor in Guiyang Medical College and later Professor and Dean of Medical College of Zhejiang University. After new China had been established, Wang once was Vice-Dean of Zhejiang Medical College, Director of Infectious Diseases Institute of Zhejiang Medical University, President and Honorary President of Zhejiang Medical University and, Chairman of Zhejiang Science and Technology Association, Cochairman of the Fourth Zhejiang Committee of the CPPCC, a member of the Central Committee of Jiu San Society, Zhejiang Provincial Vice-Chairman, Councilman of Chinese Medical Association and Chairman of its Zhejiang Branch, Chairman of Infectious Diseases and Verminosis Society of Chinese Medical Association, and Councilman of International Infectious Diseases Conference. He had long been engaged in the study of Infectious Diseases and Verminosis. In 1935, he initiated a new way, blood smear, to diagnose kala-azar and proved Sodium stibogluconate to be effective remedy. In the fifties, he proposed a preventive and therapeutic algorithm for lung schistosomiasis and was put into wide use. In 1952, he first showed the spreading of leptospirosis in Zhejiang Province. In 1984, he successfully led and completed the research in the infection of hepatitis B virus within the uterus. Moreover, he was the chief editor of the books Lemology, and Medical Science Encyclopedia: Lemology, and etc.

2. Chen Guo (19521957)
Professor Chen Guo, from Cixi, Zhejiang province, joined CCP in 1956. He graduated from Zhejiang Medical School. He served as a medical doctor in Chongqing and Tianjin Central Hospital. In 1948, he went to study in US and came back in 1949. After new China had been established, he served as Professor and Department Head in Zhejiang Medical College and as Director in the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang Medical College, Deputy Director and Director of Zhejiang Health Department, Chairman in the Zhejiang Branch of Chinese Medical Association, and a member of the Fifth and Sixth National Committee of the CPPCC. Chen Guo had a unique way of making a diagnosis and giving treatment to cardiovascular disease. His wrote a book named How to Prevent and Cure Pulmonary Heart Disease, published several papers including Clinical Analysis on 152 Cases with Rheumatic Heart Disease:, and translated works like Howard A. Rusks Rehabilitation Medicine.

3. Yu Zhifei19571982
Yu Zhifei, a hematologist from Shanghai, graduated from medical college in Shanghai Saint John's University and got a M.d. in Peking Union Medical College. He once taught in Shanghai Tongde Medical College. After new China had been established, Yu Zhifei served as Professor in Zhejiang Medical College and Director in the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang Medical College, Professor and Advisor in the Medical College of Jinan University, Vice-chairman of Hematology Society of Chinese Medical Association, a member of International Hematology Association. At the same time, he was a member of China Democratic League and of the Fifth and Sixth National Committee of the CPPCC. In 1980, he was hired as professor by Internal Medicine Department and Hematology Department in New York Mount Sinai School of Medicine. In 1956, he first explained clearly in China that iron-deficiency anemia and non-iron-deficiency anemia could be diagnosed by dyeing marrow iron. In 1959, he elaborated on the clinical feature and hematological characteristics of malignant histiocytosis, and proposed bone marrow aspiration as its clinical diagnosis method. In 1960, working with others, he discovered Mediterranean anemia in Zhejiang Province. He first discovered hematoglobin H (HBH) and Barts in China in 1964 and hematoglobin E in center China area in 1977. His works include Anemia and Erythrocyte Series Disease.

4. Yang Songsen (1982-1984)
Yang Songsen, from Jintan, Jiangsu Province, graduated from Guiyang Medical College in 1943. He joined China Association Promoting Democracy (CAPD) in 1953 and successively served as Vice-Chairman of the Second, Third, and Fourth Committee of Zhejiang division of the China Association for Promoting Democracy, and was a member of the Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Zhejiang Committee of the CPPCC. After graduation from Guiyang Medical College in 1943, he worked in Guiyang Medical College and in the Fourth Shanghai City Hospital. From 1952, he served as instructor and later associate professor in the Medical College of Zhejiang University, and professor in Zhejiang Medical University, and Chief Physician in the Urology Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of College of Medicine, Zhejiang University (First Hospital of Zhejiang Province). He became a member of provincial birth control technology steering group in 1963 and a member of provincial Family Planning Committee in 1981. From 1981 to 1985, he served as Vice-Director and Director of the First Affiliated Hospital of College of Medicine, Zhejiang University. Yang Songsen was a distinguished expert in Urology in China and the primary founder of Urology department in Zhejiang Province. Because of his outstanding achievements in medical research, he won the title of Advanced Worker in 1979, and enjoyed the special subsidy of the State Council in 1992.

5. Huang Huaide (1984-1993)
Huang Huaide was Director of the First Affiliated Hospital of College of Medicine, Zhejiang University, Professor of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang Medical University, Chairman of Zhejiang unit of Chinese Association for Internal Medicine, and Chairman of Zhejiang unit of Chinese Association for Endoscopy. He won Chinese Medicine Award of Recognition in the year 2004.

6. Wang Jing (1993-1997)
Professor Wang Jing, Ph.D. supervisor, a famous expert in ocular fundus disease in China, served as Director and Chief Physician of the First Affiliated Hospital of College of Medicine, Zhejiang University. Currently, he is Advisor in the Ophthalmology Centre, in Chinese Association for Ophthalmology, and in Zhejiang Association for Ophthalmology. He once held the positions of Director of Ophthalmology Centre, a standing committee member of Ophthalmological Society of Chinese Medical Association, an executive council member of Zhejiang Medical Association, Chairman of Ophthalmological Society, Director-General of Zhejiang Optical Society, editor of Chinese Journal of Ocular Funds Diseases and of many other professional periodicals on ophthalmological researches, a member of the Review Committee of Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award and Chinese Medical Young Person Award, and a member of the Committee of Drug Evaluation in State Drug Administration. Wang Jing has been engaged in ophthalmological medical treatment, teaching and research for over 40 years, and has abundant experience in clinical work, and is skilled in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of ocular fundus diseases. Moreover, he has noble medical ethics, enjoying a high prestige at home. He has published more than 80 related academic papers and books, taking charge of editing and participating in compiling a number of monographs. In 1992, he gained the award of special subsidy of the State Council and even won the Award of Chinese Ophthalmological Society on the First Global Chinese Ophthalmological Academic Conference.

7. Zheng Shusen (1997- today)
Professor Zheng Shusen, Ph.D. supervisor, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, serves as Vice-Dean of College of Medicine, Zhejiang University, Director of the First Affiliated Hospital of College of Medicine, Zhejiang University, Chairman of clinical medicine teaching steering committee of the institutions of higher education under the Ministry of Education, a member of the Second Division of Life Science Academic Divisions under the Ministry of Education, a member of the Standing Committee of Chinese Medical Association Surgery Branch, leader of study group of organ transplantation, Director of the Key Laboratory of Multi-organ Combined Transplantation of Research under the Ministry of Public Health, a member of the International Hepatopancreatobiliary Association (IHPBA), and of Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), and so on.
Zheng Shusen has long been engaged in the diagnosis and surgery treatment of hepatopancreatobiliary diseases, of the organ transplantation, of multi-organ combined transplantation, and of hepatopancreatobiliary malignancy. Since the first case of liver transplantation in 1993, he has carried out such operations for 600 cases, and the survival ratio every year is 95.2%, reaching advanced international standard. As a pioneer of multi-organ joint transplantation in our country, he treated Type 1 Diabetes associated with uremia with pancreas-kidney combined transplantation in 1994. Until now, he has carried out operations for 6 cases and patients longest survival time is near 13 years, which broke the former record and kept the best record of pancreas-kidney combined transplantation in Asia, and this achievement won National Second Prize of Progress in Science and Technology. In 1999, he took the head in doing liver-kidney combined transplantation in our country and until now, he has done such operations for 19 cases, which is new record at home. In 2001, he did an operation of 1iving-related liver transplantation (LRLT) to a 9-month-baby, the youngest child receiving such operations in China.
As the Chief Scientist, he is taking charge of the first Program 973 in the area of organ transplantation in our country and serves as a member of Five-People-Expert-Group of project of Chinese Human Liver Protein Project (CNHLPP). In addition, he undertakes over 20 scientific research projects of National 863 Program of China and the National Tenth Five-year projects et al.

Zheng has published more than 400 papers, 40 of which have been indexed by SCI, and taken charge of editing or participating in compiling over 20 monographs. He has won one National Second Prize of Progress in Science and Technology, three Provincial First Prize of Progress in Science and Technology, and Prize for Significant Contribution in Zhejiang Science and Technology, etc. Meanwhile, he is awarded the honor national advanced worker and Optimized-aged Young and Mid-aged State Outstanding Contribution Expert, and enjoys the special subsidy of the State Council.
